A Fault Tolerant Approach for Networked Control Systems Using Predictive Models

In this paper, an on-line fault tolerant approach for networked control systems is proposed. The fault tolerant approach incorporates a fault detection and diagnosis methodology based on on-line identification of an ARX model and on neural nonlinear principal components analysis, as well as on neural nonlinear discriminant analysis. When a fault is correctly diagnosed the supervision system reconfigures the closed-loop system using a predictive model acting as a virtual sensor. The fault tolerant approach has been tested successfully on an analogue simulator (HW123 hardware setup) under closedloop control. © Controlo 2008.
